Plan to Resume Immunotherapy Injections

Plan for Injections to Resume

Our providers recognize the importance of being able to offer our patients allergy injections and have reviewed the necessary safety measures needed to do so. Our plan is to RESUME ALLERGY INJECTIONS ON MONDAY, MARCH 23. Hours will be LIMITED, 9 AM – 12 noon, 1 PM – 3 PM. **PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS TO BE PREPARED IF YOU COME FOR AN INJECTION**

We anticipate long wait times for injections to be given. Please come prepared to wait both before your injection and your mandatory 30-minute wait after.

This plan requires staff in the parking lot – in the event of weather complications, we may have to discontinue injections. Our website and Facebook page will be the most up to date resource for this information.

Our providers are recommending that those at maintenance dose of their program should only get their injection if they are DUE for an injection (maximizing the interval between injections).

Our providers have identified that patients over 65 years old, those pregnant/nursing, patients with uncontrolled asthma (use of albuterol in last 24 hours, use of albuterol more than twice in one week) as high-risk and should not receive injections at this time.

Our providers have created the following list of screening criteria. If you cannot honestly answer the following questions with the following answers listed in parentheses, you will NOT be able to receive an injection at this time. This is for your safety, as well as the safety of our staff and community.

Screening Questions

  • Are you healthy today?   (YES)
  • Have you had cough, fever or shortness of breath in the last 2 weeks?  (NO)
  • Have you been in close contact with a family member who has been ill in the last 2 weeks? (NO)
  • Have you had contact with someone known to have COVID-19 in the last 2 weeks? (NO)
  • Have you had domestic or international air travel in the last 2 weeks? (NO)
  • Did you have any problems with your last injection?  (NO)

To maintain current recommendations about limited numbers of people in one gathering place and 6-foot separation, we will be implementing a significantly different process for patients to receive injections.

PLEASE, do NOT arrive prior to 9 AM start. Staff will need time in the morning to set up and adjust for these changes.

All patients will be stopped at the first entrance to the parking lot to be screened by a clinical team member. You must be able to pass the screening questions outlined above. If you cannot pass the screening, providers will NOT authorize administering an injection to you.

Detailed instructions will be posted on our website on Monday. There will be a phone number to text once you have passed your screening. Please wait in your car. Once your injection has been drawn up, you will be texted “OK” to enter the office. You will be asked to use hand sanitizer upon entering the office. Please leave belongings in your vehicle. Do not bring additional people into the office with you. A minor child may have 1 adult to accompany them into the office. Once your injection has been given, you will wait your 30-minute observation period in your vehicle. There will be staff circulating in the parking lot to assess for reaction and release you at completion of your wait time.

For the safety of our staff in the parking lot, we will be implementing a one-way traffic flow around the building. Please follow posted signs.

This will likely take significantly longer than usual. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we implement this new process. We are invested in your health and safety, and the health and safety of our staff and community.

Be smart, be wise. Our recommendation is that you wait until your injection is due. If you feel your injection is urgent for your health, we will have limited staff to provide this service.

We will continue to offer telemedicine appointments to existing patients.
